Regional Workshop on Accelerating Science and Technology to Foster the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Asia and the Pacific

UNESCO Jakarta office is implementing projects / activities to facilitate the acceleration of science and technology in order to support the achievement of the target of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Asia Pacific region (AP-FAST). This activity is funded by the Malaysian Fund in Trust (MFIT).

The purpose of this event is to place this project as a means to aim / challenge the use of Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation (SETI) faced by the governments of Asia Pacific countries in implementing 17 targets and related targets set in Agenda 2030 for Sustainable development.

This project builds on the growing expectations of the region, and will gather experts to discuss and develop tools and policies related to the exchange of scientific knowledge as government directives for the inclusion of SGDs in development planning and implementation.
As part of the project activities, UNESCO held its first regional workshop in Dili, East Timor on 7 - 9 June 2017. The workshop aims to analyze the inclusion of SDGs in development planning and identify the effective and inclusive ways of SETI in the implementation of SGDs. The workshop also focuses on various UNESCO programs including: International Hydrology Program (IHP), Man and Biosphere (MAB), GeoParks, and DRR and Climate Change.
